Emirates Marks a Decade of Service at Orlando International Airport

Emirates is celebrating a decade of connecting Central Florida to the world through its service at Orlando International Airport (MCO).

Since 2015, Emirates has carried over 1.1 million passengers and operated 4,700 flights, underscoring its commitment to global connectivity and premium service.

The airline’s SkyCargo division has also boosted local trade, moving more than 14,000 tonnes of cargo—including pharmaceuticals, ferns, pets, and specialty goods—for major clients like Siemens and Disney.

Key figures such as Matthew Jones, Emirates USA Vice President, and Lance Lyttle, CEO of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority, praised the partnership and its positive impact on tourism and commerce.

MCO’s continued investments, including a $72 million terminal renovation and a $315 million technical center, reflect its role as a thriving travel hub.

With future upgrades and ongoing collaboration, Emirates and MCO aim to drive Central Florida’s growth and connectivity for years to come.

Central Florida Businesses Lead with Wages Above New $14 Minimum

Florida’s minimum wage has climbed to $14 per hour, moving closer to the $15 target set for 2026.

Yet, many Central Florida businesses, such as Great Harvest Bakery in downtown Orlando, are already paying above this rate to keep pace in a tight labor market.

Owner Evan Delaney leads by example, ensuring employees receive more than minimum wage and emphasizing that tips should be a bonus, not a necessity.

This approach boosts staff morale and helps them cope with rising living costs.

According to CareerSource Central Florida, local wages now average around $24 per hour.

Industries like hospitality, healthcare, and construction are raising starting pay to remain competitive, with Universal Orlando Resort upping its base wage to $17.

Business leaders see these wage increases as key investments in their workforce, fostering loyalty and improving service as Central Florida’s economy evolves.
